About the Author
Buddy Baker and Xavier "X" Atencio, both Disney Legends, created "Grim Grinning Ghosts" together, with Atencio writing the lyrics and Baker composing the melody. Baker has composed more than two hundred scores for Disney movies, such as The Fox and the Hound; television shows, such as The Mickey Mouse Club; and theme park attractions, such as The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh. Atencio started his career with Disney as an animator, working on such classics as Fantasia and Mary Poppins. He later became an Imagineer and scriptwriter and helped create Disney Parks attractions, including Pirates of the Caribbean in Disneyland and Space Mountain in the Magic Kingdom at Walt Disney World. James Gilleard was raised in a small village called Garthorpe in the North of England before moving to London to study illustration and animation, which he now does for a living. His love of vintage animation has influenced his retro style. He enjoys old cartoons, pulp comics, birds, dinosaurs, and everything 1960s and 70s.

Whether you're a long time Disney Park fan, or looking for a spooktacular Halloween read, this is a book worth picking up!The Haunted Mansion is not only a fanatic picture book, the story itself is the lyrics from popular theme park ride. This book takes readers deeper into the Haunted Mansion, giving Disney Theme Park fans a deeper look into one of it's most popular rides, and given those who haven't yet visited it, a great introduction to it. Trust me, if you haven't checked out this ride yet, this picture book is the next best thing.This book's illustrations are to die for.... at least the ghosts from this book may think so. The illustrations are exactly what I would except from a Disney picture book. It's the perfect mix of fun, and kid friendly spookiness that compliments the ride perfectly.The book also comes with a cd featuring the song, "Grim Grinning Ghosts". This is song is one featured on the theme park ride. Be warned, once you listen to the cd, you won't be able to get the catchy tune/song out of your head.The Haunted Mansion is a book worth picking up! Especially during this Halloween season. I'm looking forward to seeing which theme park ride will be featured next in this series.
Although written for a younger child, this beautifully illustrated book makes a great keepsake. The original music, included on CD, is a nice touch! Apparently, this is only the first installment of "Disney Parks Presents." Other iconic ride books to follow (i.e. Pirates of the Carribean, etc.)
I have been an Amazon Prime Member for a long long long time. I have ordered hundreds, perhaps thousands of items from Amazon. This book, is the best purchase I've ever made from here. Followed closely in second place by the Pirates of the Caribbean version of this book.The illustrations are gorgeous. The attractions themselves are classics. The illustrators manage to capture the spirit of the attractions beautifully.The books are short and sweet, perfect for reading to toddlers. Especially toddlers who have been to WDW. My son has read this collection of books every night since we returned from WDW 2 weeks ago.I am giving anyone reading this review a direct order to purchase this book. Then go purchase the Pirates version and the Small World version.Do it now!!!
My wife and I love the Haunted Mansion at Walk Disney World. We're taking the kids for the first time this fall, and they're younger and kind of easily scared sometimes. The wimps. I bought this to help gear them up for riding it. The book just illustrates some scenes from the ride and the text is just the lyrics to the Grim Grinning Ghosts song. You also get the song on CD. As far as the text goes, I was hoping for a bit more - a story or something. Just reading song lyrics or following along with the audio doesn't even keep my 4 year old very interested. She loves her Disney books that come with a story CD. The book itself is really nice looking though and I do think that it will serve its purpose in making them just a little braver when it comes time for the ride.
Haunted Mansion is my favorite ride. Bar none. So I LOVE this book.The art is BEAUTIFUL! Full page spreads that immerse you in the ride. The story is the lyrics to the song (sing along everyone) so not much "substance" but still amazing.
My six-year-old daughter is a huge fan of the Haunted Mansion ride at the Magic Kingdom. We rode it twice during our last visit. I was very excited when I saw this book. When she opened it Christmas morning it was the first thing she actually stopped to sit down, take a break from opening and really look at. She shows it to everyone who comes over. It's something we'll treasure forever!
I absolutely love the artwork in this book--that's why I bought it. Great for anyone who loves Disneyland's Haunted Mansion or anyone who need to introduce their little ones to the attraction before taking them on it. I haven't listened to the CD only because I have the song many times over from other Disney CD collections.
My kids were scared by the ride at Disney World (crying by the end) so I purchased this book as a way to let them explore the Haunted Mansion from a safe place. Now they talk about the ride as if they enjoyed it, and it is one of the things they talk about most. The music is good too - we used it on Trick-or-Treat night to create a cheerful/spooky mood.
