I would recommend it more for intermediates than for beginners (unless you are studying from other resources as well), because the step by step exercises end in a very polished result and when I was a beginner, it was really frustrating to compare my result to the one on these kind of examples and realize a lot of things weren't explained and I had no idea how to achieve them. As an intermediate artist, I can get more of this book and understand the omitted steps because of my previous knowledge in shading, highlights, perspective, hatching techniques etc. It includes step by step instructions (from 3 to 9 steps) about fruits, everyday objects, plants, home and office, animals, buildings and the human body.I would have liked more images on how to hold the pen, warming up exercises, visual step by step explanations on how to add shadows on basic shapes first (ball, cube, etc), contour shading, etc, instead of mentioning them "as we go". I can see the potential for a nice book for beginners, but it is not there yet.What I did enjoy, was the whole first Chapter "Before you start" it has very wise advice for beginners. If you like following instructions like "draw on easy 3 steps" kind of tutorials, this is the book for you.
Well the author did a good job breaking things down into the very basic outlines and then adding to that. He gave us step by step instructions on how to start with the very basics of stick figures and then how to fill them in. Where he fell very short is not explaining shadowing. He illustrated it but did not explain techniques of how to do it. I've bought this book and akready practicing drawing plants abd animals. it's a bit tough but I think I am doing all right.what I wanna say about the errors misspellings, yeah there are some, yet that's not a fiction book, so I can easily close eyes on that as long as the content is good. and it is.
