Solid basic tutorial. Missing some of the key historical markers including Alfred Bloomingdales influence on General Purpose Credit Card Architechture and how the General Purpose Commercial Card Industry was born. Seems to be missing the effect of Bill Fair and Earl Isaac regarding Risk Management and the more modern impact of Dr. Bill Fitzgerald as it relates to managing risk in all forms of payment.
Great book if you’re new to the US payments system; very well structured and written.
This is THE industry book on Payments.
I have been in electronic payments for my entire 30+ year business career and am often enlisted to educate colleagues and partners about the payments world. I regularly suggest they get this book as it is an excellent primer and then some for anyone needing to get up to speed on the payments domain. We also regularly hire the Glenbrook team to come on site to conduct training sessions.
I have participated and recommended Glendbrook over the last 10 years and if I can't send my people to one of their boot camps I give them this book. Hands down the most concise way to get quickly up to speed on payments systems, terms and players. This is a great book for executives to individual contributors to cut through a lot of the confusing components and actors in the payment industry. After being in the business for 20 years, I still look forward to the updates and insights that Carol, Scott and Russ provide in this gem.
The Glenbrook team really knows their stuff. This book is a must own for any payment professional. It's never far from my reach at the office. It's must read material for any new member of my payments team.
