JOHN C. FERGUSON is the volunteer services coordinator at the San Jacinto Battleground and Battleship Texas State Historic Sites. His duties include training staff and volunteers in the art of historical interpretation, and presenting educational and historical programs to the public. John is the author of three books dealing with U.S. military and Texas history including Texas Myths and Legends (McWhiney Foundation Press, 2003).

Details my father's tour in WWII, which he almost never discussed. It makes sense now how it must have affected him! Call it shell shock or PTSD, the cost to the warriors is immense and we need to remember their sacrifice. It doesn't stay in the theater of war, it comes home with them. God Bless our vets and may the USA take care of all of them.
Great insight into my grandfather's WW2 division. I was able to figure out basically where he suffered his injury and obtain is Purple Heart. Also, great insight into what the young soldiers went through, from training to war.
Good book for the 12th
My father was in this unit. It was very interesting to me.
I bought this for an old veteran in a nursing home after finding out that he had served in the 12th during WWII. Sadly he died shortly after getting it and I have no idea if he enjoyed any part of it. I love reading WW11 history but there is nothing better than talking to a veteran about his or her experiences in the war. Talk to them while you can.
It was great to be able to read about what my father went thru during the war. He never did talk about it much and now I know why.
In the history of the armor divisions from World War 2, it is the higher numbered divisions (11th, 12th, 14th, etc) that always are given less than their proper credit. This book goes a large way in righting that wrong. Using pictures, maps & personal accounts Mr Ferguson tell sthe story of the 12th Armored Division in a readable manner.
